Schools
of wizardry accross the continent of Avalon are always looking
into new magics to enhance the lives of adventurers.
In the past span, an obscure mages' school known
as 'Hogwatts' has trained a number of birds-of-prey to be fast
and quick messengers. These birds can deliver a message or small
package from one kingdom to another in a matter of hours and then
fly home to their mews. These birds replace the less-than-glamourous
pidgeon, and tend to be faster and more accurate in delivery.
The most often used bird for messages is the falcon,
whereby the phrase of"sending a falcon" came about in
common parlance. Certain mews of messenger birds have become widely
known, including the Ay'oel mews, the Ya'who falconry, and the
Aughtmayle service. (There is speculation the Aughtmayle and Emessen
mews are actually run by the powerful necromancer William Gatis).
I prefer the Ya'who service myself, as their falcon service is
very inexpensive but reliable.
And yes, Quentari elves do have a sense of humor!
